“Art exhibition: Visions”

Visiones is, above all, a sequence of paintings born from within two artists. In one of these sequences, we will see five works by the artist Betty Cárdenas, and an equal number of the works on display are authored by the young artist in training, Tomás Salazar. Teacher and student from the Alas de mariposa Artistic and Cultural Corporation, they wished to show through this exhibition a glimpse of what dwells in their hearts and minds, and they found in MAR (Museum of Arts of Rionegro) a welcoming space to do so.
The artist Betty Cárdenas, a Fine Arts graduate, offers us a series of images from her most recent production. We will see palette knife acrylic paintings on canvas that are part of the series Bailarina en la eternidad (Dancer in Eternity), begun in 2008. The works the artist presents in this exhibition allude to violent death and transmutation, standing as a clear example of the sublimation of pain from loss. It is, perhaps, a way to represent the transition from a material plane to a more spiritual and ethereal one, as a tribute to that which remains encrypted in her memory: love.
For his part, Tomás Salazar, an art student at the Alas de mariposa Corporation, delivers in his paintings sketches of the youthful dreams and obsessions that he pursues with enthusiasm in search of consolidation. With a palette that can be classified as monochromatic, his palette knife finds in the heavy material load of acrylic or oil the rich textures with which he identifies and that allow him the sensory enjoyment inherent to art.
Visiones is a joyful encounter between teacher and student, who dedicate their work to exploring the intricacies of their inner worlds in order to understand themselves and find a better way of living—if possible—happily.
This exhibition opens next Thursday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. and will remain open until July 24, 2023.
